Two bathers. A pool of turquoise light. The kind of moment you almost miss if you’re moving too fast.

During a summer holiday in Konstanz, I noticed two bathers drifting through a luminous pool. This work captures the extraordinary clarity of the water - turquoise at the surface, shifting through emerald and deep teal below - as sunlight fractures and dances across every ripple, revealing a world of colour beneath. Stone steps descend into the shallows on the right, anchoring the scene in a place worn soft by time and use.

Built with layers of acrylic paint on warm undertones.

Framed in a brushed white wood frame and ready to hang.

"My Open Heart" tells the story of a walk in the mountains and the vast landscape opening up before you. As I was painting it the sense of something greater drawing near was important for me to capture. I brought the warmth of the light and the ponies into the scene to draw the viewer up close.

This painting has a sense of movement of warm light sweeping across the landscape with the ponies giving it life. It has subtle greens, warm peach and pale yellow and ochre tones with some deeper crimson.

"Today’s Nourishment”

Inspired by an old photograph of a farmyard scene in Germany, “Today’s Nourishment “ was painted during my recovery from a broken wrist. I was encouraged by regular time spent in my studio resiliently finding ways to keep creating within my limitations. Colour exploration, mark-making and expressive strokes, many created with my non-dominant left hand gave me much needed enjoyment and a sense of hope and possibility.

Layers of acrylic paint in warm undertones create depth and softness, with lively brushwork to describe the movement and activity of the scene.

This acrylic painting depicts a warm summer scene on the Dorset coast path and is part of a small series. The vast expanse of water catches the sunlight, the steep cliffs and quarried rocks and a couple can be seen enjoying the moment. This painting is a scene I return to again and again, mentally if not physically, as this place holds many memories.

This acrylic landscape follows the line of the cliffs along a section of the Dorset coast path and is part of a small series. This view, years in the making, has slate grey cliffs under which reserves of oil are buried. Flashes of Paynes grey, blue and rusty orange lead the eye through the painting and up into the expanse of sky and breaking cloud.

Lockdown in 2020 meant that rare visits to the coast path in the summer were very special. There is a looseness to the marks with layers of paint, sanding, texture and glazing to create the surface of the cliff and sea.

This acrylic painting depicts an enormous cliff face scoured and etched by time and water and is part of a small series. The waves constantly moving underneath and the sounds echoing in the caves beneath. Just holding on to its place on the thin earth right at the top is a tiny gate at the end of a wall. I loved the composition of this one with the large creamy chalk cliff face coloured by streams and the sense of scale it necessitated. The colours range from deep blues and burnt sienna to the palest creams and blue-greens.
