Looking Ahead – Print

Working from a tiny scratched sepia image of my Grandfather on a horse, this painting took me on an exploration of a captured moment emerging from the past. Never having met him, I was intrigued to study this man and his beautiful horse and to imagine the world in which he lived. This painting is sold but is available as a print.

Working from a tiny scratched sepia image of my Grandfather on a horse, this painting took me on an exploration of a captured moment emerging from the past. Never having met him, I was intrigued to study this man and his beautiful horse and to imagine the world in which he lived. Here he is; the owner and breeder, Mr William Loughton of Southwell, Nottinghamshire; riding “Westhorpe Prince”, foaled in 1910. He was a beautiful chestnut colt with a blaze.

The overall feel of this piece is light in colour with warm creams, dashes of light blue and darker burnt orange and sienna.
This piece is part of a series inspired by old sepia photographs.
